According to the mail, Freeview's website crashed this morning as millions of people logged on to find out how to re-tune their set-top boxes. This happened because the website resides on servers which couldn't handle the number of visitors trying to access it.
Whether the down-time was due to poor planning or a simple miscalculation, the incident highlights the importance of factoring your Internet operations into offline marketing efforts. Although this incident is unlikely to cause any significant damage to Freeview, if a company running a prime-time TV campaign made the same mistake, it could cost them dearly.
